Planning to study in Malaysia, there’s good news for you!
Universities in Malaysia are all ready for this year’s admissions, and what better way to start the admission process than the Malaysian Prime Minister himself wooing international students to come over and pursue their studies in the country.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia labeled the country as one of the finest global destinations for students to pursue their higher education. He recently starred in a video on social media and requested international students to join Malaysian universities for a better and much enhanced educational experience.
“Students who study abroad become explorers and we are in that amazing part of the world where so many cultures co-exist harmoniously, where you will find incredible customs and traditions, exotic and wonderful food as well as astonishing social dynamics,” New Strait Times quoted Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as saying.
Dr Mahathir emphasized on Malaysia’s ability to offer a balanced private and public education system which has attracted some of the top brains from across the world in the recent past. He also said that Malaysia’s education system has successfully produced graduates and professionals who excelled in their careers.
Dr Mahathir believes studying abroad is vital in “becoming a successful global citizen” and also accentuated that “education is crucial for the development of nations, their peoples, economies and societies.”
He further noted that Malaysian Universities not only imparted academic knowledge to international students but familiarized them with Malaysia’s rich tradition, culture and hospitality.
He says: “You’ll find that completely immersing yourself in a different style of education is a great way to really experience and understand the people, its traditions, and its cultures.” Dr Mahathir also believes that pursuing a course in any university in Malaysia or college is an experience worth having and cherishing.
Malaysia – a global hub for higher education
Over the years, Malaysia has been attracting students not only from South East Asia but also many other countries from the West and Europe. The country is gradually becoming a melting pot of culture as you get to see people from different ethnic backgrounds, languages and traditions coming together and studying under one single roof.
One of the major contributing factors that have helped the Malaysian education system rise to the zenith is its education ministry. Officials have taken a special interest in knowing about the current demand in education and technology that can contribute immensely to the welfare of each student.
Legislations like the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, Education Act, and the Private Higher Education Institutions Act closely scrutinize the welfare of international and local students, the quality, and teaching methodology
With all of this in place, Malaysia is able to qualify and meet international standards of excellence in its education system. Here are a few reasons why Malaysia is a suitable destination to pursue higher education:
- Splash of diversity
Malaysia is known for its vast cultural and ethnic diversity. The country also boasts about its rich natural resources, scenic beauty and hospitable people which make it an ideal place for you to pursue higher education. Besides, its impressive facilities for research, progress in technology, and quality of education add to your core competency.
- Affordable
Unlike other places, Malaysia prides upon offering the best quality education at affordable prices. It is a stable economy and primarily focuses on imparting the best quality education for every student. Like the Prime Minister of Malaysia said in his address to international students recently, “education is crucial for the development of nations, their peoples, economies and societies.”
- Mode of instruction
All educational institutions in Malaysia employ English as their mode of instruction, making it easier for international students to communication not only in their classes but across the country as well. The flexibility to accommodate the English language is one of the reasons that make Malaysia an ideal choice for pursuing your higher studies.
Preparing students for the future
Malaysian Universities are reforming their pedagogy by giving students the desired industry exposure. Universities are now introducing new courses and curriculum that make students industry ready.
“To produce industry-relevant graduates, we focus on a student-centred environment where students are provided with opportunities to interact and work with industry partners on their assignments and projects, and have access to advanced laboratories and workshops with essential tools to develop their skills,” New Strait Times quoted SEGi University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Patrick Kee Peng Kong as saying.
“We also ensure that students gain exposure to the real-life work environment so that their transition into the industry is as seamless as possible through (various) programmes…” Kee added.
Apart from focusing on job-related knowledge, universities are also introducing courses on life skills, communication and social intelligence to help students communicate their objectives coherently in the job market.
What’s the other good news?
Study in Malaysia for international students has become a tad easier as the Economic Council has offered respite from mandatory medical screening before entering the country. This statute from the council will take effect from 1st June 2019.
Based on certain changes in the Health Screening and Insurance Guidelines for international students, it has been decided that there will no requirement of pre-arrival medical screening when applying for student pass application to Malaysia.
Likewise, the edict issued comes with a disclaimer which requests international students to submit a “Health Declaration Form” for their VAL applications. If a student fails to submit this form, the application will be considered incomplete and placed under the “Require Correction” status.
Furthermore, if a student is diagnosed with a medical condition which makes them unfit to stay in Malaysia, they will be required to leave the country on an immediate basis.
